This is the new Vauxhall Corsa which has been unveiled ahead of its official debut at October's Paris Motor Show.

New Corsa

The Corsa is one of the UK's most popular cars - it's sold more than 11 million units around the world since launch - and this is its fourth generation.

With around 85,000 new Vauxhall Corsa's being sold every year in the UK, the chips are down for the carmaker to keep what is a successful recipe together.

And they've managed to do a great job!

New Vauxhall Corsa will be economical

Powered by a range of economical diesel and petrol engines, the Corsa will be available as a three and five door hatchback and it’s essentially the same vehicle as the current model but with a number of improvements.

These changes have been led by customer feedback so that means the quality of the interior, the car's handling and ride have been improved.

The Vauxhall Corsa's dimensions stay roughly the same but it's up against some very stiff competition in the shape of the Ford Fiesta which has excellent class-leading handling abilities and the solid and reliable VW Polo.

New look Vauxhall Corsa takes a bow

Designers have also reinvigorated the exterior and the dashboard is completely new - there's even an impressive seven-inch touchscreen in the dash which can be controlled by the driver's voice and it can receive internet radio.

The interior is very different from the current Vauxhall Corsa and there's the addition of ambient lighting and much less clutter in the cabin. It's a very peaceful place to enjoy a comfortable drive.

One reason the ride will be better is that the suspension has been improved and the electric power steering alters to the speed of the car (which, for instance, means it will adapt to make it easier to park and then act differently at speed so those light touches on the wheel won't adversely affect the steering. It's a clever idea).

Lease the new Vauxhall Corsa

In addition, buyers will also be able to choose from two suspensions in the comfort or sport modes: the comfort will be best for every day driving while the sport will have a stiffer set-up which means less bodyroll but potholes will be felt in the cabin.

Most buyers will opt for the three door Vauxhall Corsa but the five door variant will have more kit on board.

The new Vauxhall Corsa goes on sale in January 2015 and prices are expected to be similar to the current model and it should give Ford a reason to look nervously over their shoulder and wonder what the impact will be on its popular Fiesta.
